The Internet – The Undiscovered Country

Samstag, Juli 17, 2010

Just came across an impressive infographic about the size of the internet, which is estimated at 5 million Terabytes of data. This number comes from Google CEO Eric Schmidt and was apparently mentioned in an interview in 2005, so it’s totally outdated – but whether the internet is 5 million Terabytes or 500 million Terabytes is not the point. The point is that Google claims to have indexed 0.004 percent of all this!

Now we can safely say that if you can’t find something on Google, it will be pretty hard to find it at all – unless you already know where to look. Ergo,  99.996 percent of the internet are pretty much unknown.

Thanks to my dear colleague Vivian for sharing!
